About

The Gündüz Alp Mausoleum, located in the village of Hırkatepe, approximately 20 km from the Beypazarı district center, bears an inscription stating that it was built in the name of Gündüz Alp, the father of Ertuğrul Gazi and the grandfather of Osman Gazi. The surrounding area features notable geological formations as well as houses reflecting traditional architectural characteristics. According to local belief, Gündüz Alp was martyred at this location during a raid. Although Ertuğrul Gazi’s father is commonly stated to have been Süleyman Shah, a discovered coin bears the inscription “Osman bin Ertuğrul bin Gündüz,” suggesting Gündüz Alp as his father.
