The historic Çoban Mektebi building, located in Keçiören and registered as a cultural heritage site in 2009, was restored by the Keçiören Municipality and opened as the Atatürk Ankara Turkish National Struggle Museum in 2024. Built in 1889 during the reign of Sultan Abdulhamid II for agricultural education, this building hosted the civilian heroes of the Turkish National Struggle from December 27, 1919, onward. It was a frequent gathering place for many notable figures, including Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, Halide Edip Adıvar, Yunus Nadi, and Mehmed Âkif Ersoy. The two-story museum building comprehensively presents Ankara’s historical memory, the civilian resistance during the Turkish National Struggle period, and the process leading to the Republic through extensive exhibitions. Through documents, period reenactments, and an original narrative style, the museum aims to keep alive the face of the Turkish National Struggle in Ankara and its collective spirit.
